My new 3D printed mouthpiece

Sax players are preoccupied with mouthpieces. It is a constant search for the mouthpiece which enables one to get that elusive, personal, ideal sound the player has in his or her head.

Now I am working on my soprano sax with a new 3D printed mouthpiece from SYOS. Their system works like this. You provide them with information about your ideal sound. They send you the first iteration of the 3D printed mouthpiece they think will work for you. If the sound is not right you tell them how you want to change it and they print and send you another iteration until you achieve the sound you want.

Great idea. Let’s see if it works out. So far I am trying the first iteration. It is promising but not yet right and I await the second iteration.

Steve’s gigs

Hello My Friends
Just letting you know that I have a special jazz gig on Friday 7th September at The Druid Inn, Birchover – 01629 653836.
Rob and Joyce who run the pub will be retiring and this is their leaving do. We all wish them well in their retirement and wonder what will happen next in the Druid.
GPS trio will be playing – see below – and will be joined by guest drummer Paul Tozer for some of the evening.
Joyce and Rob are music lovers and GPS are very grateful for their support over the last few years.

Steve’s gigs

Hi Friends
Eye off the ball. Got distracted. But we have a nice gig this evening, with our new band, Fomentum, at Harley, north of Sheffield. Not jazz. Not rock’n’roll. Don’t know what to call it. Disruptive!!
If you happen to be free do come along.

Steve’s Gig tomorrow afternoon

Hello FriendsJust a quick message about a nice jazz gig I have tomorrow – Sunday March 18th in Ashbourne from 12.30 pm to 3.30 pm
Why not drop in to ”Young Ideas” Fashion Store in The Green Man Building, 10 St John Street, Ashbourne, DE6 1GH.
I’ll be playing there with the wonderful Matt Ratcliffe on piano keyboard.
Hear some cool music and see some great designs.
Last time I played there I got a marriage proposal (Jacquie didn’t agree to it) so I’m wondering what will happen tomorrow!

More news about other gigs soon.

All the best

Steve’s gigs

Hi Friends
I hope you can come to one of these interesting and exciting shows in December.

Friday 8th December:
“You might as well live” by Cotton Grass Theatre is a very successful production which has toured far and wide to great acclaim.
It stars Sue Daniel in a play about Dorothy Parker, written and directed by David Frederickson, and the Steve Salfield trio (now called GPS trio) playing music from the “jazz age.”

Fomentum is a new line up with a disruptive approach to songs you probably know.
It features Pete Moxley on keyboards, Robert Glendenning on vocals and percussion, Graham Jones on double bass and me on saxophone.
Join us and go “fomental” just before Christmas.

Hope to see you.
