Steve’s gigs – summer 2017

Hello My FriendsHere is an update about some of my gigs in the near future.
These are all by GPS Trio plus friends.
GPS means the wonderful Graham Jones on double bass, the excellent Pete Moxley on keyboard and the very modest Steve Salfield on saxophone – we will be playing some standards and some less expected music.
GPS also means Global Positioning System – we have no idea where we are going, no map and we depend on messages from space based radio navigation to know what to play next.

They are all very enjoyable occasions, and I hope you can manage to get to some.

Friday 23rd June 2017
GPS Trio at De La Salle Club in Sheffield – De La Salle Club, Beauchief Hall, Beauchief Hall Drive, S8 7BA
Doors open at 7.15 pm, we start playing at 8.15 pm
Members £6, Guests £7 on the door. You will be signed in at the door. There are no advance tickets but if you are coming, a call to Tom Chester on 0752 842 8925 would be helpful but not essential.

Tuesday 27th June 2017
Art and Jazz in Winster Church 6-8 pm
This annual event is part of Winster Wakes. Local artists show off their work and GPS Trio plays cool jazz in the beautiful environment and wonderful acoustics of Winster Church.
Always an enjoyable couple of hours with wine and nibbles available.
Entry free but donations to the Wakes collection, for good causes, are welcomed.

Friday 14th July 2017 – Friday Fizz in Bakewell – 6.30-8.30 pm
GPS Trio play at a garden party in aid of RNLI, in the grounds of Tannery House, Matlock Street, Bakewell, DE45 1EE courtesy of Mr and Mrs Crosby
Tickets £12.50 which includes your first drink and canapes.
Admission by ticket only – from Sherry Hawley on 07919 888951

Saturday 15th July and Sunday 16th July, 2-4.30 pm – Jazz in a beautiful garden – Winster Secret Gardens – Gardens open from 1.30-5.30 pm
GPS trio plus brilliant drummer Clive Loveday play jazz all afternoon in the lovely garden of Rod and Jan Shiers at Headlands, East Bank, Winster
Secret Gardens is a lovely, annual event, in which you can visit many picturesque private gardens in Winster, eat delicious cakes and ice creams, and also linger and listen to our music whilst, if you want to, sipping a drink.
Some jazz lovers spend the whole afternoon listening in this lovely garden.

Hope to see you soon.

Steve’s last gig of 2016

Hello Friends and Happy Christmas

This is a reminder about my last gig of 2016 which will be a

Christmas Special at The Druid Inn, Birchover 01629 653836 on Friday December 23rd 2016. Entry is free and we start playing around 8 pm.
It’s a great pub with a laid back atmosphere, award winning beer and very good food.
It’s getting quite booked so if you want to eat, best to book your table soon. Otherwise just turn up.
Jazz will be played by my friends the seriously excellent musicians: Pete Moxley on keyboard, Graham Jones on double bass, Paul Tozer on drums, and of course, the modest me on saxophone.
Also we are expecting some marvelous surprise guests who will join us for a few numbers which should be a great treat for all of us.

Hope you can make it.
Wishing you a Jazzy Christmas and a Swinging 2017.
Steve

PS Due to travel plans I don’t have any further gigs planned until May 2017: May 6th – Back Seat Jivers play Rock’n’Roll in Weybridge
May 14th Jazz Breakfast – Steve Salfield Quartet, with brilliant musicians Wendy Kirkland, Pat Sprakes and Clive Loveday, at Medway Centre in Bakewell. An annual event usually a sellout. Details of both nearer the time.

Steve’s gigs(R)

Hi Friends
Only a few gigs before Christmas and some of them not open to the public.
Here is what I have on offer:

Thursday November 17th. Jazz at The Druid Inn in Birchover. 01629 653836
Great pub with lovely food award winning beer and friendly owners and staff.
And of course wonderful jazz by Pete Moxley on keyboard, Graham Jones on double bass and myself on saxophone.
I hope you can make it.

Saturday December 10th 8pm
THE CALL, SOUTHBOUND, PLUK
Coal Aston Village Hall, Eckington Road, S18 3AX
Triple bill for the annual Hootenanny, which always generates a fantastic crowd and atmosphere.
I’m playing with a great Rock’n’roll band, The Call. I did this gig with them last year and enjoyed it so much. Really glad to be doing it again.
Bring your own food and drink, get yourselves a table, and enjoy a wonderful night of acoustic fun from Pluk, Americana and country from Southbound, and the usual carousing pop and soul from The Call.
£6.00 on the door. It’s a bargain!

Friday December 23rd. Our Christmas Jazz Special – at The Druid Inn in Birchover. 01629 653836
As I said above this is an excellent pub.
This time Graham Jones on bass, Pete Moxley on keyboard and myself on sax will be joined by Paul Tozer on drums to beef things up.
I expect we’ll be playing some jazz versions of Christmas songs as well as some of our usual, ever popular numbers. We always have to play Pink Panther for one of our regular supporters.
Do join us if you can.

All the best
Steve
