Steve’s gigs in May and June 2011

Hi Friends

I’m re-emerging and have a few nice spring gigs coming up.

JAZZ BREAKFASTS AND BRUNCHES seem to be my new specialty – in village halls and also for birthdays and the like.

BACK SEAT JIVERS has a gig too after several years gap – it’s a private party so I’m afraid if you want to hear us you’ll have to book us for another gig.

A new exciting development for me is the JET JAZZ COLLECTIVE. Nine or 10 musicians will spend a weekend inventing a new suite of music inspired by Derbyshire Landscapes and then performing it on the Sunday evening – who knows what will happen?

Sunday 15th May 2011. Winster Jazz Cafe jazz breakfast. Burton Institute, Winster. 11am.

Steve Salfield Quartet. I play with 3 wonderful musicians Wendy Kirkland on piano, Pat Sprakes double bass and Clive Loveday drums. These jazz breakfasts have been very popular and usually sell out in advance, so please buy your tickets soon.

Tickets £7.50 adults, £3.50 children include coffee, tea, juice, croissants, cake. Please buy ahead as there will be no tickets on the door, from Gill Geddes 01629 650634, Geoff Lester 01629 650090, Winster Post Office 01629 650668

Sunday 22nd May 2011. Jazz Breakfast, Medway Centre, Bakewell. 10.30am-1pm. In aid of Oxfam

We’ll play cool and mellow jazz with continental breakfast.

    Steve,

We, (that’s John, my husband and I), attend the wine tasting events at Wensley and were there last Friday – a good night I must say with one or two notable English wines I would try again sometime!

However, due to other commitments we could not make your gig today in Winster and unfortunately we are in London next weekend and will miss your one in Bakewell too. We’d love to hear you play, because I am head fundraiser for the new organ at our local church, St. Giles in Matlock. We are currently holding a series of fundraising concerts, potentially in the church and we thought a jazz evening could be great. Do you do any charity gigs? could you let us know what the set up is so we could see if it is viable.

    Many thanks

Hi Sarah Glad you enjoyed the English wine tasting evening. I enjoyed myself very much too. I believe we met on Friday. The gig this morning in Winster went very well. We had a lovely audience and they seemed to enjoy the music a lot. Thanks for your interest in my music. Yes we play charity gigs quite often and would love to play at one of your concerts. My band is the Steve Salfield Quartet or Trio. The trio is me on sax, plus double bass and piano and the quartet is the same lineup but with drums also. I prefer to play with the full quartet whenever possible. We play contemporary jazz. It’s enjoyable music and people usually (always) like us. Fees are not our main consideration as we just love to play. For a charity event we normally charge £50 per musician if possible – so £200/150. I hope you’ll be able to find us a slot. Please let me know what you think. All the best Steve PS. I also have a gig on Friday 10th June in the evening at the Whitworth Centre in Darley Dale which you might be interested in. Here are the details:
